Switching from Pellets to Wood

A combi soapstone stove from NEDITA

NEDITA offers various soapstone stoves as combi stoves, sometimes called hybrid stoves. In combi stoves, both wood and pellets can be burned. The combi stove combines the best of both worlds: the long radiant heat of soapstone and the possibility to switch effortless between wood and pellets as its fuel. On this page, we tell you the most important things about the operation and benefits of this innovative stove.

Heat Storage in Our Combi Soapstone Stove

A combi stove can burn both wood and pellets. The principles of heat storage in the stove remain the same, whether you burn wood or pellets. The hot flue gases released during combustion go through channels of soapstone out of the stove. This heats the soapstone and the energy released from the stones heats the room. This not only results in very comfortable warmth and clean air, but also in significantly higher efficiency than traditional stoves.

Our Pellet Burner Versus a Regular Pellet Stove

The pellet burner we use is fundamentally different from a regular pellet stove. In a regular pellet stove, the pellets are pushed one by one into the combustion chamber and a built-in fan is present. The fan ensures that cold air is drawn in and led into the combustion chamber. The cold air is thus heated and blown out again. This obviously produces noise and an unappealing flame pattern, as well as the circulation of hot and cold air.

A standard pellet stove contains many moving parts that need regular maintenance and can easily break down. This brings with it the necessary costs.

In our combi soapstone stoves, we use patented technology based on micro-gasification, which not only provides a beautiful flame pattern, but is also free of electronics and moving parts. Nothing can break. That’s why we also give a 10-year guarantee on it without any problems.

From Wood to Pellets

The soapstone stove is supplied with the patented BluComb pellet burner, which is placed under the wood combustion chamber.

If you want to burn wood, place the supplied cover plate over the pellet burner, stack the wood in the combustion chamber, and light it. Two loads of wood can give up to 12 hours of heat.

Would you like to switch to pellets? Remove the cover plate from the soapstone stove, fill the pellet burner with pellets, and light it. One load of pellets burns for up to 2 hours and provides about 10 hours or more, depending on which model you use, of heat.

It may be unnecessary to mention that you can only switch between pellets and wood when the stove is completely cooled down.

The Benefits of Our Combi Stoves

Our combi stoves many advantages:

  • easy switch between wood or pellets
  • both wood and pellets provide a beautiful flame pattern
  • the stove does not need to be connected to electricity
  • there are no moving parts in the stove (and therefore very robust)
  • very long heat output due to the radiant heat of soapstone
  • pellets are made from by-products of the wood industry, burning pellets is therefore a sustainable solution
